What is Lifeline?
Lifeline is a federal program that helps lower the monthly cost of phone or internet service. Qualifying consumers can get a monthly discount of up to $9.25 off the cost of their phone, internet, or bundled services. Consumers living on qualifying Tribal lands can get up to $34.25 per month.
How do I keep my Lifeline Benefit?
Each year, USAC will check if you still qualify for the benefit. If USAC can confirm you still qualify, there is nothing else that you need to do. If USAC cannot confirm you still qualify, you will receive an email or letter in the mail to help you recertify. You may also receive additional reminders by email, mail, or pre-recorded messages on your phone. When you are asked to recertify you must do so within 60 days, or you will lose your Lifeline benefit.
What happens if I don't use my phone or internet service while on the Lifeline program?
If your Lifeline service is free, you must use it at least once every 30 days to maintain your service. If you don’t, you will get a 15-day notice to use it or it will get turned off.
